We endeavour to provide projected success rates for each case.  Root treatment like many medical  procedures is not assured of a  100% success rate, consequently  the fee is based on surgery  time  and procedure, rather than the outcome.

The radiographs shown above demonstrate the case of an upper first molar before and after root canal treatment by Dr Ian Charlesworth.

Much to the relief of the patient who had suffered pain for several weeks this case was successfully completed over two visits.

With the aid of a microscope Dr Ian Charleworth was able to locate the canals inside the tooth once access had been gained through the  existing  filling.

At this first visit the canals were cleaned and shaped using  specialised instruments. An antibacterial agent was then  applied  down the canals in order to thoroughly cleanse the internal surfaces. The medicament is normally left inside the tooth for two to four weeks.

At the next  visit the canal system is checked and re-cleansed   before the final root filling is sealed into position.

A report with copies of your x rays are sent to your own dentist. Generally  the tooth has a crown or onlay scheduled by your dentist  in order to strengthen the biting surface.

We recommend that you visit your dentist within a month following root treatment , during which time it is prudent to avoid heavy biting  on your tooth until the final restoration .
